Dow hits another high on Wednesday

U.S. stocks extended their gains on Wednesday, hitting record highs as Federal Reserve officials debated over slowing asset purchases amid improving labour market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.9%, or 128.78 points, to 14,802.24 with a turnover of 6.2 billion shares. All nine industry groups advanced with technology and health care group rallying the most. Merck & Co Inc. surged 2.9 % to $46.84 as in a report released yesterday analyst at Jeffrey Holford maintained a hold rating on the health care company's shares. Pfizer Inc. also added to an increase in health care stocks, as the research-based pharmaceutical company rose 2.8% to end at $29.92. Cisco Systems Inc. followed with a 2.4% advance to pace gains in technology group. Only three blue-chip companies declined with Wal-Mart Stores dropping the most by 1%. Jerry Murray, the retailer's mid-level executive who recently called the company's sales to be a disaster, left the company. Furthermore, Alcoa Inc. plunged 0.95% to $8.31 to cap further increase in basic materials group.
