Dow closes higher for an eighth straight day

U.S. equities fluctuated between gains and losses on Tuesday, as investors sat on the sidelines after a session string of gains, sending the technical shares lower. However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed less than 0.1% to 14,450.06, extending its gains for an eighth consecutive day. Four out of nine sectors in the gauge edged higher. Merck & Co contributed to a 0.9% rally in health care shares, as its shares soared 3.2% to close at $45.05 after the company said it is still working on a study of cholesterol drug. Furthermore, Hewlett-Packard added to gains in tech shares that were 0.2% higher, as it advanced 1.7% to $21.40. Boeing Co capped further losses in industrials with its stock price adding 1.5% after the company won a jet order at amount of $15.1 billion from Ryanair Holdings Plc. Meanwhile, Caterpillar fell 1.6% for the biggest slump in Dow, as a the construction company was cut to underperform.
