The Wall Street closed in the positive area on Tuesday amid mounting hopes that the Fed will decide to continue its loose monetary policy at its meeting on Wednesday. Sending the US stocks higher, quarterly results continued to beat expectations. The S&P 500 Index gained 0.51% to 1,507.84. Eight out of ten sectors included in the index were bullish. The biggest gains posted oil and gas and telecommunications sectors. Shares of Hess and Valero Energy lead gains among energy firms, rallying 12.78% and 9.01%. Hess climbed after unveiling it would sell some of its business segments by the end of February. Valero Energy soared as its margins more than doubled amid lower operating costs and lower crude oil prices. Pharmaceutical companies also witnessed sharp gains, with Eli Lilly And Company adding 3.19% on upbeat earnings and sales forecast for 2013. At the same time, Seagate Technology and Bmc Software dragged the index lower. Seagate Technology and Bmc Software lost 9.36% and 6.23% after releasing modest next-quarter outlooks.
