Sentix Investor Confidence Improved for Fourth Month

Euro-area sentiment grew for a fourth coherent month in December amid the highest expectations since May 2011 on the European Central Bank's promise in July to preserve the Euro calmed investors. The Sentix Investor Confidence report published on Monday showed that, following gain from -22.2 to -18.8 in November, the Eurozone investor sentiment strengthened to -16.8 in December, while economists projected the index to reach -16.2.

"The main reasons for the improvement in expectations are the ECB's measures announced in the summer. It has taken private investors time to recognize that the ECB's clear pledge on an "irreversible" euro has led to a turn around. All doubts are by no means overcome, but there are increasing signs that some things are improving," Sentix said.

Japan's economy falls into recession in Q3

The Japanese economy fell into technical recession, when contracted two successive quarters, the Cabinet Office reported on Monday. Economic output of the country declined 3.5% annually in the quarter ended in September following a fall of 0.1% in the Q2. Private consumption and capital spending had the biggest impact on contractions, when both were down 0.4% and 3%.
