CPI indicator rose 2.8% year-on-year in July 2025, up from 1.9% in June. Housing, food and non-alcoholic beverages, and alcohol and tobacco were the largest contributors to the increase, with electricity costs jumping 13.1%, though the Commonwealth Energy Bill Relief Fund rebates helped reduce household impacts.

The CPI excluding volatile items such as fuel, fruit and vegetables, and holiday travel rose 3.2%, while the trimmed mean inflation reached 2.7%. The Australian Bureau of Statistics will transition to a complete monthly CPI measure starting with the October 2025 release in November, replacing the quarterly CPI as the primary headline inflation measure.
