The number of Americans claiming for unemployment benefits declined slightly to 357 thousand in the week ended March 31 from the week before, said the Department of Labor on Thursday.
"The labor market is going to continue to gradually heal, though we have a long ways to go," said Ryan Sweet, a senior economist at Moody's Analytics Inc. in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
"The economy is pulling up pretty well given the headwinds we're seeing from Europe."
"You put this number with the other job numbers we have seen and they show the labor market continues to grow," said Stan Shipley, an economist at ISI International Strategy and Investment in New York.
