Swiss stocks declined slightly on Wednesday, snapping eight-day stretch of gains, amid worries European leaders will not reach an agreement on changes to the EU treaty.

The Swiss blue-chip index SMI, a measure of the largest and most actively traded companies, declined 0.03%, or 1.69 points, to 5,766.24. The broader Swiss Performance Index slid 0.01%, or 0.57 point, to 5,227.52.

"There are a lot of reasons to get risk averse again ahead of the summit," said Trung-Tin Nguyen, a hedge-fund manager at TTN AG in Zurich.
