U.S. Jobless Claims Dip as Continuing Claims Edge Higher

Seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims fell to 216,000, down 6,000 from the prior week, while the four-week average edged down to 223,750. The insured unemployment rate held steady at 1.3%, with continuing claims rising slightly to 1.96 million.



Unadjusted initial claims rose to 243,992, up 11.8% from the prior week but still close to last year's level. Unadjusted continuing claims reached 1.80 million, up 5.1%. Total claims across all programs fell to 1.77 million. Claims from former federal workers and newly discharged veterans both declined.
