United States publish employment data

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics has just published the monthly employment data. The markets were waiting for the release for most part of the week.

In general, the event has caused a spike up of the US Dollar that amounted to 52 points or 0.49%.

Released data most importantly consists of the Non-Farm Employment Change, Average Hourly Earnings and Unemployment Rate.

Non-Farm Employment Change shows the actual change in the number of employed people in the previous month, but excludes the farming industry that has cyclical changes. The market consensus forecast was that there would be an increase of 171,000 employed people during September. However, the actual number is staggering 336,000.

Average Hourly Earnings shows the month on month comparison change of the average salary. Namely, a large increase of average wages signals inflation further down the line and domestic demand for the US Dollar in the form of higher salaries. Markets expected salaries to have increased by 0.3%, but the actual numbers is an increase of 0.2%.

The Unemployment Rate is the percentage of the economically active population that is out of job. It is not the percentage of the population not working, but the people that have lost or left their jobs recently and are actively looking for work. Analysts expected the rate to be at 3.7%. Actual published numbers is 3.8%
