Japanese stocks tumbled on Friday amid concerns European lawmakers are doing little to fight the debt crisis.
The Nikkei 225 Stock Average erased 1.17 per cent, or 107.36 points, to 9,070.76. The broader Topix Index fell 0.96 per cent, or 7.36, to 757.23.
The U.S. jobless data "reignited investor concern about the economic future," said Kenichi Kubo, a senior fund manager at Tokio Marine Asset Management Co.
"It's the most reliable data I look at as its correlation with economic conditions and share movements are consistently high."
