"… all attempts by the government to improve the situation in the U.K. aren't making any impressions on the public mood"
- Nick Moon, GfK Social Research managing director
U.K. consumer confidence remained at low levels in July, a sign government efforts to boost growth failed to lift consumer mood. An index of sentiment was unchanged from June at minus 29, said London-based research group GfK NOP Ltd.
"Things are looking very bleak for the government," said Nick Moon, GfK Social Research managing director.
The failure of the index to improve "is a clear indication that all attempts by the government to improve the situation in the U.K. aren't making any impressions on the public mood."
The FTSE 100 Index erased 1.02 per cent, or 58.35 points to 5,635.28. The broader FTSE All-Share Index retreated 0.99 per cent.
