Japanese stocks ended Thursday's session higher

Japanese stocks gained on Thursday after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke reiterated plans to keep interest rates low at least through late 2014.

The Nikkei 225 gained 0.01%, or 0.82 points, to 9,561.83. The broader Topix increased 0.08%, or 0.61, to 810.10.

"Keeping interest rates low over the long term is good for the market. The Fed made it clear that they're going to do that," said Toshio Sumitani, a strategist at Tokai Tokyo Research Center.

"The market is solid because earnings are looking good."
