The US Dollar appreciated against the Canadian Dollar, following the Canadian Retail Sales data release on Tuesday at 12:30 GMT. The USD/CAD exchange currency rate gained 13 pips or 0.10% right after the release. The Greenback continued trading at the 1.3115 level against the Canadian Dollar.
Statistics Canada released the Canadian Core Retail Sales data, which came out worse-than expected of negative 0.2% compared with the forecast of 0.0%.
According to the official release: "Sales in the retail trade sector edged down 0.1% in August to $51.5 billion. Sales were down in six subsectors, representing 51% of retail trade. After removing the effects of price changes, retail sales in volume terms increased 0.2%."
