U.K. stocks declined, as minutes from the Fed's latest policy meeting did not point at further stimulus to boost economic growth.
The FTSE 100 Index fell 56.23 points or 1 % to 5,608.25. The broader FTSE All-Share Index dropped 0.9 %.
"Disappointment has set in as the world's most powerful central bank still seems unwilling to provide another sugar rush of cheap money," said Chris Beauchamp, Market Analyst at IG Index.
