U.K. mortgage approvals surged in January

The total number of approvals for mortgages in the United Kingdom jumped considerably in January of this year to its largest level in more than six years, helped by the government support program, when buying property. According to the BBA data, approvals increased to 50,000 in December, up from 47,100 in the last month of 2013. Economists expected the indicator to rise slightly.
