Central banks search for innovative ways to combat the slowdown

Central banks across the globe are searching for innovative ways to stimulate bank lending and keep ailing global economy afloat. Officials from the Fed, the ECB and the BOE will meet next week in order to discuss new strategies to struggle with the slowdown. One of the options to consider is to take some of the risk of new lending onto the central banks' balance sheets and force commercial banks to pay for saving cash in central banks.

Eurozone's debt crisis hits corporate earnings

The Eurozone's worsening sovereign debt crisis hits corporate earnings, escalating concerns that the region's problems may significantly undermine performance of companies around the globe next year. Large U.S. companies including Ford Motor Co. and Apple Inc. stated that European consumers' slowed spending was the main reasons for disappointing results. Meanwhile European corporations claimed that they suffer more than anticipated.

Ford earnings better than forecasts

Ford Motor posted a second quarter report with higher than expected earnings, but also the company doubled its estimates for losses in Europe, where debt crisis is far away from being resolved.  Soon after the report, company's shares jumped higher than 1 per cent.
