Soa Tome ends diplomatic ties with Taipei in favour of Beijing

Soa Tome and Principe, an African island nation, cut ties with Taiwan, withdrawing the official recognition it offered in 1997. Taiwan's officials claimed the move was the result of Beijing using Sao Tome's financial troubles to promote "one China" policy.
