HINT: On LINUX desktop, you may want to create a "desktop shortcut", so you can launch the program by simply clicking on the shortcut. A HOW-TO-DO please find on http://xmodulo.com/2013/11/create-desktop-shortcut-launcher-linux.html

jForex platform ALWAYS downloads every time You start it. In doesn't depend on the operating system that You use.

HINT: If you have a program you use regularly on LINUX desktop, you may want to create a "desktop shortcut", so you can launch the program by simply clicking on the shortcut. So, a download of the jForex.jlnp (Java Network Launching Protocol) is NOT needed every time. Any questions on LINUX? Feel free to ask! -Regards, Mary

For me, on Linux Mint 13, right-click & drop-down-menus weren't working on icedtea; haven't tried with oracle java on it though.

I love to hear that some guys here operate free and ethical distributions. Unfortunately, proprietary operating systems cannot be trusted. Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) is probably the easiest-to-use distribution for people migrating from Microsoft Windows. Jforex is running properly on icedtea as well as on oracle java. Regarding your concern about platform downloading, neither Oracle or IcedTea Linux JVMs contribute to this behaviour, therefore the question is better restated "Why does the JForex platform always download upon starting?".

JNLP files include information such as the location of the jar package file and the name of the main class for the application, in addition to any other parameters for the program. Each time you start a Java Web Start application can be checked if newer components are present. So the user can always work with the current provided by the author of the program version. Regards! -Mary
