Aussie gains as investors hold rate bets

The Australian currency continued to gain from the prior week as traders predict that the Reserve Bank of Australia will hike the rates within one year as the economy strengthens. The Aussie gained 0.1% to 90.93 U.S. cents at 5:45 p.m. in Sydney after it added 0.6% last week. It advanced 0.3% to 93.15 Japanese Yen. The yield on the Australian government debt maturing in 10 years added as much as 0.01% to 4.17%.

Precious metals under pressure amid mine strikes in South Africa
