Australian business activity expands for 3rd consecutive month

Construction sector activity in Australia accelerated for the third successive month in December with the construction index reaching a level of 50.8, however the figure fell sharply compared to the previous month, a report revealed by the Australia Industry Group showed on Wednesday. According to the report, Australia's construction activity fell from November's 55.2, but stayed above a level of 50 signalling an expansion in the sector.

Gold falls before Fed's minutes today

Gold declined on Wednesday as the U.S. Dollar held firm before the U.S. Federal Reserve released minutes from the last policy meeting suggesting that the country's central may continue to trim its stimulus measures. Bullion for January settlement fell 0.5% to $1,225.71 an ounce and traded at $1,226.62 as of 2:16 p.m. Singapore time.
