German business sentiment rises more than predicted

Business confidence in Germany increased more than forecasted in January of this year, reaching the largest level in more than two years. The benchmark Ifo Index, which measures the sentiment of 7,000 German companies in all the main sectors of the economy, surged to 110.6 points versus 109.5 in December. Analysts expected the index to improve to 110 points in January.
