US data has minor impact

The Consumer Board Consumer Confidence index and the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey Job Openings number have been released at 14:00 GMT. The released numbers did not make a significant impact on the financial markets, despite being considered high importance.

The CB Consumer Confidence was forecast to show a pessimistic reading of 99.7. The released survey result is a positive 100.03.

In the meantime, the JOLTS was expected to reveal 8.02 million open jobs in the United States. Actual number is 8.18 million. More available jobs indicate at a healthy economy.

Both indicate that the US economy is strong and the Federal Reserve does not have to cut interest rates. This factor strengthens the USD, as higher rates for longer mean more demand for the Dollar. However, as can be observed on the chart, the US Dollar index adjusted to the upside by just 12 base points.

The minor reaction is due to the markets waiting for the US Federal Reserve events that are scheduled to start on Wednesday at 18:00 GMT.

Core PCE inflation increases 0.2%

The US Bureau of Economic Analysis has published the Core Personal Consumption Expenditures Index. This index reveals inflation at the consumer level. Prices have increased by 0.2%, as expected by market analysts. The US Dollar is reacting to the news by increasing its volatility without a clear direction. In the current market environment inflation remains the top macroeconomic aspect to watch.
