"You are finally seeing the nervousness that beset Europe this morning seeping across in to the U.K."
- Chris Beauchamp, a market analyst at IG Index
U.K. stocks declined for a third consecutive day on Monday as investors awaited a European summit later this week.
The benchmark FTSE 100 Index lost 1.14%, or 63.04 points, to 5,450.65. The FTSE All-Share Index erased 1.17%, or 33.47 points, to 2,828.05.
"You are finally seeing the nervousness that beset Europe this morning seeping across in to the U.K.," said Chris Beauchamp, a market analyst at IG Index in London. "There seem to be very few positive catalysts knocking around."
"If the market believed that something would come out of the summit, it would surely be rallying now and it's not," said Mike Ingram, market commentator at BGC Brokers.
