The Swiss blue-chip index SMI, a measure of the largest and most actively traded companies, retreated 0.27%, or 16.22 points, to 6,017.91. The broader Swiss Performance Index edged lower 0.11%, or 6.30 points, to 5,603.35.
"Difficulties remain and it's going to be a long process. Spanish bond yields continue to rise. There isn't a lot of investor appetite for this type of risk. The market remains nervous."
