Lloyds Banking Group and CaixaBank have successfully executed live cross-border tokenized deposit transactions through Project Agorá, a public-private initiative backed by the Bank for International Settlements. The tests demonstrated atomic, simultaneous cross-currency payments and settlements—converting Swiss francs into sterling and euro-denominated transfers—averaging processing times of under one minute and twenty seconds. 

The pilot highlights how commercial bank money tokenization can drastically reduce friction, counterparty risk, and settlement delays in wholesale cross-border finance. By moving past theoretical prototypes, the participating banks are paving the way for regulated, blockchain-based settlement frameworks alongside major global peers.
