USD/JPY has been advancing inside an ascending regression channel since bouncing off the 153.60 level, but the short-term structure is under immediate strain following a sharp spike and rejection above 158.00. The recent multi-hour selloff has dragged the price down to 156.999, driving it decisively below the 24-period Simple Moving Average at 157.389. This rapid downward momentum is testing the midline of the multi-day trend, with the flattening SMA suggesting that immediate bullish momentum is stalling out into a corrective phase.

The immediate focus rests on whether buyers can defend the channel's lower ascending boundary between 156.60 and 156.70. A confirmed bounce off this dynamic support would offer an opportunity for bulls to retest the 157.40 resistance zone and possibly push back toward 158.00. Conversely, a decisive 1-hour close below 156.60 would signal a technical breakdown of the ascending channel, likely exposing lower horizontal support shelves at 156.00 and 155.40.
