U.S. equities trimmed losses, after gaining the last two weeks and sending the S&P's index up, as data showed manufacturing shrank in November. The manufacturing PMI dropped more-than-expected to 49.5 the prior month from 51.7 in October adding to concerns about possible economic turmoil caused by the so-called fiscal cliff. The S&P 500 fell 0.5% to 1,409.46, after earlier reaching its day's high of 1,423.73. All but one sector within the index fell with Basic Materials tumbling the most. The only sector that slightly rose was Telecommunications with a 0.05% increase. The top performers were Advanced Micro Devices, VeriSign and Dell Inc. with the latter surging 4.4% to $ 10.06 right after Goldman Sachs enhanced Dell's price estimate for the stocks by 44% to $13. Meanwhile, among the worst performers were Netflix, Cooper Industries and Owens Illinois with their shares dropping 7%, 6.11% and 3.44%, respectively. Netflix lost the most in a month after Redbox reported they would undercut the biggest subscription service.

European shares gain on Eurozone's optimism

European stocks advanced for the second consecutive day, rebounding from its earlier losses, as lawmakers in the U.S. continue debating on the budget plans to avert the so called fiscal cliff and growing optimism on the Eurozone as Spain officially requested a bailout.
