Japanese stocks retreated on Thursday amid concern Greece will exit the Eurozone and as the Yen rose.
The Nikkei 225 lost 1.05%, or 90.46 points, to 8,542.73. The broader Topix erased 0.57%, or 4.13, to 719.49.
"We just don't know what will happen with Greece as different polls are coming out one after another, showing mixed signals," said Isao Kubo, a Tokyo-based equity strategist at Nissay Asset Management Corp.
"Overseas factors and the rising yen are causing a sell-off."
