- Ewald Nowotny, European Central Bank Governing Council member
European Central Bank Governing Council member Ewald Nowotny said the bank does not plan additional bond purchases to stem rising yields on euro area government securities.
"This for the time being is not a matter of discussion," Nowotny told on Tuesday, when asked if bond-buying program is something the ECB considers.
"The ECB has done a number of measures that were very helpful and efficient for the economy. We are now in a situation where we have to see how these measures have worked in the economy, especially in long-term operations."
European stocks closed higher on Tuesday. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index advanced 0.75 per cent to 244.30. Germany's DAX Index increased 1.16 per cent and France's CAC 40 Index rose 1.37 per cent. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 Index gained 0.65 per cent to 5,391.14.
