European stocks closed higher on Tuesday amid hopes the European Central Bank will take actions to address the sovereign debt crisis.
The Stoxx Europe 600 Index advanced 0.40 per cent to 272.58. Germany's DAX Index gained 0.79 per cent and France's CAC 40 Index added 0.94 per cent.
"Markets have gradually been creeping higher over the past two months or so," said Ryan Djajasaputra, economist at Investec Securities.
"There's a slightly more positive attitude about the euro zone and that the [European Central Bank] could provide some support for sovereign bond yields."
