US blue chips sank on Thursday on speculation that the FOMC minutes were out-of-date and the US economic recovery sped up since then. However, slightly better-than-expected PMI releases from the Eurozone limited the downswing of the US blue chips. The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index lost 0.88% to close at 13,057.46. All sectors included in the index tumbled. Basic materials and technology industries created notable pressure on the US stock index. Alcoa and El du Pont de Nemours slumped 2.71% and 1.08% while Cisco Systems and Intel dropped by 0.47% and 2.68%. Meanwhile, Hewlett-Packard was the top-loser among technology firms, plunging by 8.07%. The company reduced its full-year earnings forecast much more than analysts expected. At the same time, financials also followed bearish trend, American Express and Bank of America plunged 0.70% and 0.85%.
