Yen - the best performer among developed-nation currencies

On Friday morning in London the Yen was trading at JPY 96.73 per EUR which is fairly close to its record high JPY 96.43 recorded on June 1 2012. This week Japanese national currency gained 1.2% against its European counterpart. Though the Yen also rose against the US Dollar by 0.5% this week . In the morning the conversion rate was JPY 79.31 per USD. Citing Bloomberg, the Yen appreciated by 6.3% during the last three months which is the best performance among the developed-nation currencies.

Cristobal Montoro obliges regions to cut budgets

Spanish regional governments are missing their budget-deficit targets for 2012 (1.5% of GDP) and were given one week to make corrections for the plans. Last year regions showed the highest overspending, running 3.3% deficit. Cristobal Montoro, Spain's Budget Minister, also rejected finance chiefs pleas of relaxing their deficit targets. Currently Spain's budget deficit target for 2012 is 6.3%, 4.5% per 2013 and 2.8% for 2014.
