US stocks ended higher on Friday

US equities ended the week in the positive territory amid encouraging economic data releases. US UoM consumer sentiment was revised up to 73.8 in January compared with the December's figure of 71.4. At the same time, US final PMI showed expansion of the manufacturing activity despite being slightly below estimates. The S&P 500 Index rallied 1.01% to close at 1,513.17. All industries posted gains. The top-performers were telecommunication and industrial companies. CenturyLink and Sprint Nextel went up 1.73% and 1.07%, while Cummins and Emerson Electric added 1.31% and 1.45%. Among other big movers, MetLife jumped 2.30% after announcing it plans to buy the biggest private fund administrator in Chile, BBVA. Meanwhile, automobile producers also advanced on better-than-expected vehicle sales in the US last month. Ford Motor, Goodyear Tire & Rubber and Harley-Davidson climbed 0.54%, 0.22% and 0.65%, respectively. On the downside, Pitney Bowes Inc. tumbled 4.09% after posting weak earnings and profits.

Pound Gained against Euro ahead of Construction Report

The Pound strengthened versus the Euro ahead of U.K. industry report, which will show construction PMI increased in January, following decline to 87.17 pence per Euro on February 1, the lowest level in 15 months.
