Dow advances on positive unemployment data in the U.S.

U.S. blue chips surged on Thursday, as jobless-benefit claims fell more than expected. In addition, retailers jumped amid advance in March sales. The Dow Jones Index climbed 0.4% to 14,865.14 points, the highest value ever. 25 out of 30 companies and eight out of nine sectors included in the gauge posted gains. Pfizer Inc, a pharmaceutical corporation, rallied 2.4% to $30.64 after the U.S. regulators agreed to faster introduction of a new breast cancer drug, developed by the company. The Travelers Cos Inc. followed with a 1.5% rise to finish at $86.06. Verizon Communications Inc added 1.3% to $50.51. Alongside to that, Hewlett-Packard plunged 6.5% to $20.88, pushing the technology sector into the red zone, as the worldwide personal computer shipments slid 14% in the first quarter of 2013. Microsoft Corp and Intel Corp followed with a 4.4% decrease and a 2% drop to close at $28.93 and $21.82, respectively.
