Canadian economy creates 67.2K jobs in September but unemployment rate remains at 7.0%

Canada's employment change rose markedly last month, official figures showed on Friday. According to Statistics Canada, the economy created 67,200 new jobs in September, following the preceding month's gain of 26,200 and surpassing the 8,500 rise forecast. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 7.0% in the reported month, in line with analysts' expectations. The September increase was mainly driven by a rise in self-employment, as the number of self-employed workers in Canada jumped 50,100 in the reported period. On a yearly basis, however, such jobs advanced just 0.4%. The biggest gains in self-employment came in the health care and social assistance sector, while the public sector lost 14,300 jobs in the ninth month of the year. Overall, the growth was led by the services sector, with public administration and educational services adding 18,900 and 16,700 workers in September, respectively. Furthermore, the construction industry created 6,400 new positions, as well as the manufacturing sector added 6,300 new jobs in the same month. After the release, the Loonie climbed to 1.1389 against its US counterpart, 78.37 against the Japanese Yen, 1.4717 against the Euro and 1.0038 against the Aussie.
