U.S. banks were closed on Monday in observance of President's Day.
U.S. stocks climbed on Friday. The S&P 500 advanced 0.23%, or 3.19, to 1,361.23. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.35%, or 45.79 points, to 12,949.87.
"We have the U.S. economy accelerating with the job data and housing data also beginning to look pretty good," said Peter Garnry, an equity strategist at Saxo Bank A/S.
"We think it is in most countries' interest to preserve the European Union and the euro. We think there will be a deal."
