Consumer prices rise lower than expected
In April, U.S. consumer prices rose 0.2% after falling 0.1% in March, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over the past 12 months, prices increased 2.3%.
The biggest contributor to April's rise was shelter, which increased 0.3%. Energy prices also rose 0.7%, driven by higher natural gas and electricity costs, despite a drop in gasoline prices. Food prices, however, fell
