Trump tariffs crush S&P500

The selloff was triggered by comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who raised fears of a full-blown trade war, particularly with China. These concerns led to worries about a global recession and the potential harm to international trade. The S&P 500 ended the day nearly 5% lower, with all sectors suffering losses. The energy and financial sectors were hit the hardest. This sharp drop followed existing concerns about the economy, including the lingering effects of the pandemic, rising costs, and supply chain issues.
