16.12-20.12 Event Historical Reactions

The week before Christmas will be a busy one for macroeconomic data and monetary policy announcement traders. In general, most of the events are of medium importance and could create slippages of around 10-20 pips.

In the meantime, the top event of the week will be the Bank of England Official Bank Rate announcement. On Thursday, 12:00 GMT, the central bank will reveal its future policy in the aftermath of the UK General Elections.

Meanwhile, if one wants to trade a fundamental move, research the Canadian CPI release, which is scheduled for Wednesday 13:30 GMT, and the Canadian Core Retail Sales on Friday, at the same time.

In addition, as usual we have included the data for the weekly US Crude Oil Inventories publication, which causes notable adjustments in crude oil prices.

The reactions on the tables are measured in pips by comparing the difference in the exchange rate five minutes before the event and five minutes after the event. The exception are the Light and Brent oil price indices, which are measured in USD.

GBP/USD: UK Flash Manufacturing and Services PMIs

The British Pound depreciated against the US Dollar, following the UK Flash Manufacturing and Services PMI survey results release on Monday at 09:30 GMT. The GBP/USD exchange currency rate lost 14 pips or 0.11% right after the release. The Pound continued trading at the 1.3340 level against the Greenback.

EUR/USD: EU Monetary Policy Statement

The European Common Currency traded sideways against the US Dollar, following the EU Monetary Policy Statement release on Thursday at 12:45 GMT. The EUR/USD exchange currency rate lost 2 pips or 0.02% right after the release. The Euro continued trading at the 1.1135 level against the Greenback.
