Tesla's third-quarter 2025 results presented a mixed financial picture, characterized by record-breaking revenue and vehicle deliveries offset by a significant decline in profitability and shrinking margins. The company posted total revenue of $28.1 billion, a 12% increase year-over-year, driven by a quarterly record of 497,099 vehicle deliveries. This sales surge was partly attributed to strong demand before the U.S. federal EV tax credit expired. However, this growth in sales did not translate to profit, as GAAP net income fell 37% year-over-year to $1.4 billion, and non-GAAP EPS of $0.50 missed analyst expectations.



The company's operating margin saw a sharp contraction to 5.8%, down from 10.8% in the same period last year, with the core automotive gross margin (excluding regulatory credits) landing at 15.4%. This profitability squeeze was attributed to vehicle price cuts, higher operating expenses related to R&D in AI and autonomous technology, tariff impacts, and a 44% drop in revenue from high-margin regulatory credits, which came in at $417 million. Despite the profit challenges, Tesla's Energy Generation and Storage division was a major bright spot, with revenue growing 44% to $3.4 billion and a record 12.5 GWh of storage deployed. The company also generated a record free cash flow of nearly $4.0 billion, strengthening its cash position to $41.6 billion.
