Japanese shares drop as Yen trades up against the greenback

Japanese equities dropped, as the Yen appreciated against the greenback ahead of BOJ's decision on the monetary policy tomorrow. The Nikkei 225 slid from its 32-month high and erased as much as 1.5% to close at 10,747.74. All but one sector in the index inched lower. Oil and gas was the only group that posted gains, as it surged 1.57%. Marui Group Co posted the biggest increase among companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, capping further losses in the worst performing consumer services group that was 2.25% down. Furthermore, Sony Corp. advanced 3.3% after news the company might release the thinnest tablet computer ever made. Showa Shell Sekiyu KK surged 2.77% to 519 yen to pace gains in the oil and gas shares. Meanwhile, Toyo Seikan Kaisha slumped 4.56% to 1,171 yen, triggering a decline in the industrial shares that were 1.9% down. Fanuc Corporation slipped 3.9% to 14,350 yen, as Citigroup downgraded the factory-automation maker's stock to neutral, as the company's profits missed estimates.
