Dow falls from its highs

U.S. blue chips slumped after the S&P 500 index advanced to its five-year high last week, as U.S. lawmakers approved a budget bill to halt the so-called "fiscal cliff". The Dow Jones Industrial Average eased 0.4%, or 50.92 points, to 13,384.29. Only two out of nine sectors edged higher. Telecommunications sector posted biggest gains, as the shares of Verizon Communications and AT&T rallied 0.88% and 0.45%, respectively.  McDonald's Corp surged the most in the index by 1.12%, capping further losses in the consumer services sector that declined 0.44%. Meanwhile, Walt Disney , an entertainment company, tumbled the most by 2.34% to $50.97. Furthermore, Boeing Co. lost 2% as one of its air crafts operated by Japan Airlines ignited at Logan International Airport in Boston, pacing losses in the industrials group that was 0.45% down. Furthermore, the smallest declined in the basic materials shares was prompted by Alcoa Inc., the mining company, that decreased 1.7% to $9.10.
