UK CPI at 3.8%

In August 2025, the Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 4.1% over the year, slightly down from 4.2% in July. On a monthly basis, CPIH increased by 0.3%, compared to 0.4% in August 2024. The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) remained steady at 3.8% annually, with a monthly rise of 0.3%, the same as a year earlier.



Air fares were the biggest downward contributor to inflation, while rising prices in restaurants, hotels, and motor fuels offset some of that impact. Core CPIH, which excludes energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco, eased to 4.0% from 4.2%, with goods inflation rising slightly to 2.8% and services inflation falling to 4.9%. Similarly, core CPI dropped to 3.6% from 3.8%, with goods inflation at 2.8% and services inflation slowing to 4.7%.
