At the start of Monday's European trading hours, the stock price of Morrisons Supermarkets jumped by 10.33% or 24.88 GBP. The stock price surged due to the fact that on Saturday the company agreed to an $8.7 billion takeover bid.

The most recent bid was made by Fortress Investment Group, which is owned by SoftBank. The offer outbid the offer that was given by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. Morrisons denied this offer on June 19. On June 19, the stock price increased by more than 30%.
