US blue chips sank during risk-off trade on Tuesday after the IMF lowered its global growth estimate. Adding to the negative mood of the US blue chips, the ECB president Mario Draghi said that eurozone was facing downside risks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index lost 0.81% to close at 13,473.53. All sectors included in the index dropped. The worst-performers were basic material producers and telecommunications. El du Pont de Nemours shed 1.51%. At the same time, Alcoa gained 0.11% despite posting a quarterly loss of USd143 million in Q3. However, adjusted profits beat the Wall Street estimates. Among telecommunications, AT&T and Verizon Communications fell 1.38% and 0.99%. Lenders also plunged. Bank of America, American Express and Trevelers Cos dipped 0.75%, 0.99% and 0.32%. Oil and gas firms were bearish despite higher energy prices amid escalated tensions in the Middle East. Chevron and Exxon Mobil lost 0.22% and 0.59%.
