UK stocks move lower amid on-going eurozone woes

UK equities sank on Monday as worries over financial difficulties in Spain and Greece continued to weight down on the market sentiment. Monday's trade is expected to remain thin as Hurricane Sandy prompted New York to suspend trading on all markets. The FTSE 100 Index tumbled 0.37% to trade at 5,785.47. All but one sectors within the index moved lower. The only gainer was technology sector, with Sage Group rallying 1.25%. Weighting down on the UK stock index, basic materials and financials plunged 1.42% and 0.95%. Anglo American, Antofagasta and Eurasian Natural Resources sank 1.22%, 1.18% and 0.75%, respectively. Among financials, Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group and Royal Bank of Scotland Group sank 0.86%, 0.51% and 0.72%. Oil and gas firms also declined, with Petrofac and BP sliding 0.16% and 1.56%.
