UK Inflation Falls to Lowest Rate Since 2024: ONS June 2026 CPI Data Breakdown

According to official figures from the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS), price rises across the country slowed down in June 2026. The main shopping price measure the Consumer Prices Index dropped to 2.6%, while a broader measure that includes housing costs fell to 2.8%. The ONS attributes this drop mainly to cheaper fuel, as petrol prices fell for the first time since conflict broke out in the Middle East earlier in the year. Food price growth tracked by the agency also slowed to its lowest rate in nearly two years, making everyday groceries a bit less expensive to buy than in previous months.

However, not all areas saw relief. The ONS data shows that rent and housing costs kept pushing overall prices up, while eating out at restaurants or staying in hotels got noticeably more expensive. Internationally, the UK's price rises are now lower than the European Union average, though still slightly higher than in neighboring countries like France and Germany. Looking ahead, these ONS figures do not yet include the UK Government's new "Great British Summer Savings" scheme, which is expected to start impacting consumer prices in July's report.
