Nissan and Honda have entered a joint-development agreement to collaborate on standardized electronic control units (ECUs), in-vehicle operating systems, middleware, and vehicle-control software for upcoming software-defined vehicles arriving in fiscal year 2029. Following their scrapped merger plans from early 2025, the Japanese automakers are partnering to shorten development cycles, optimize investment efficiency, and strengthen their global competitiveness against rapidly expanding rivals, particularly from China.
