US equities rose on Friday amid speculation that the Fed will loosen its monetary policy to boost growth. Moreover, an unexpected increase in the US durable goods orders in July lifted US stocks. However, absence of fresh measures from the ECB created pressure on the US shares. The S&P 500 Index gained 0.65% to end the week at 1,411.13. Nine out of ten industries included in the index moved higher. The largest gains posted telecommunications and consumer goods sectors. CenturyLink, Frontier Communications and Sprint Nextel surged 1.42%, 1.76% and 2.30%, respectively. Among consumer goods, Kraft Foods and Kellogg soared 1.43% and 0.63%. Meanwhile, Eli Lilly And Company added 3.44% announcing promising signs of possible treatment for Alzheimer's disease. At the same time, basic materials tumbled, with Airgas and Ball sliding 1.12% and 0.09%. The top-loser was Autodesk, sinking by 15.63% after reporting weaker-than-expected quarterly results.
