Italy's EU Exports Jump 15.1%: June 2026 Trade Balance and Import Price Trends

The official June 2026 press release from Istat highlights strong growth in Italy's foreign trade, with seasonally adjusted exports increasing by 1.6% and imports rising by 1.2% compared to the previous month. This upward momentum was even more pronounced year-over-year, as total exports expanded by 9.8% and imports climbed by 13.2% compared to June 2025, driven largely by robust outgoing flows to EU member states (+15.1%). Overall, Italy maintained a healthy trade balance surplus of €4.23 billion for the month (€1.58 billion with the EU and €2.66 billion with non-EU countries), which jumps to over €9.23 billion when energy products are excluded.



In contrast to expanding trade volumes, import prices dipped slightly on a monthly basis, falling 1.3% from May 2026 due to a 2.6% reduction in prices from non-eurozone partners while eurozone prices remained flat. Despite this short-term drop, broader trends indicate persistent upward price pressure over longer periods: import prices rose 5.0% compared to the preceding quarter and were up 4.9% overall compared to June 2025. Across all metrics, non-eurozone transactions experienced significantly greater price volatility than those within the single-currency bloc, contributing heavily to both the quarterly price surge and the annual increase.
